GTA 6 is not listed for PS4 or Xbox One. Rockstar officially lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch on November 19, 2026. Its current launch materials do not list the older consoles or PC.

Quick platform answers

Query Short answer
GTA 6 PS5 Confirmed for PlayStation 5
GTA 6 PS5 Pro PS5 listing says PS5 Pro Enhanced
GTA 6 Xbox Series X Confirmed
GTA 6 Xbox Series S Confirmed
GTA 6 PS4 Not listed

The simplest buying rule is: if your device is not named in Rockstar’s current platform list, do not buy a code expecting it to work there.

Your current hardware Can you buy the announced launch version for it? Next step
PS5 or PS5 Pro Yes, through the PS5 listing Check your store region and edition
Xbox Series X or Series S Yes, through the Xbox Series X|S listing Check your store account and edition
PS4 or Xbox One only No matching launch version is listed Do not buy a current-generation code expecting it to run on old hardware
PC only No official PC version is listed Follow the separate PC status page

GTA 6 on PS5 and PS5 Pro

The PlayStation Store lists a PS5 version and labels it PS5 Pro Enhanced. Sony says GTA VI uses DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and the controller speaker, along with Tempest 3D AudioTech and the PS5’s SSD.

Those are Sony’s official platform claims. They do not prove a frame-rate target, resolution or advantage over Xbox. No independent launch-build testing exists yet.

Sony’s “plays best on PS5” wording is marketing, not a published side-by-side benchmark. The listed haptics, adaptive triggers, controller speaker, 3D audio and SSD use can be described as announced features. They should not be converted into a claimed FPS or image-quality result. The PS5 Pro Enhanced label similarly does not publish a specific graphics-mode table.

GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S

Rockstar and Xbox list both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The official materials checked do not provide a reliable comparison of visual modes, frame rates or resolution between the two consoles.

Do not trust a chart claiming exact Series S reductions unless it points to current official specifications or post-release independent testing. Pre-release video compression is not a sound benchmarking method.

Series S has no disc drive, but the announced boxed Standard GTA VI copy is a code in a box, not a disc. That makes the relevant question code/account compatibility and download capacity, not whether you can insert the box into a drive. Verify the product’s Series X|S label before purchase.

Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?

PS4 and Xbox One are absent from Rockstar’s supported platform list. A PS5 product will not run on PS4, and an Xbox Series X|S listing is not an Xbox One version. If you own only an older console, do not preorder a current-generation code by mistake.

Avoid “old-gen download” pages and videos that promise an unofficial conversion. A real new platform announcement would appear on Rockstar’s site and the platform holder’s store.

The same evidence rule applies to Nintendo devices and cloud/subscription claims: they are not in the current Rockstar launch-platform list. Absence is not a forecast about all future ports. It is enough to say there is no supported purchase path for those devices today.

PS5 versus Xbox: which should you choose?

There is no evidence-based performance winner before release. Choose using facts you can verify now:

  • Which supported console you already own.
  • Where your preferred library and friends are.
  • Accessibility features you personally need.
  • Available storage and internet connection.
  • Local console and game prices.
  • Whether the confirmed PlayStation-specific controller features matter to you.

Cross-play, cross-save and Xbox Game Pass availability are not confirmed in the sources checked, so do not buy one platform based on an assumption that progress will move later.

Digital and boxed-code compatibility

Standard is available digitally or in a box containing a download code. Ultimate is digital. The boxed Standard version is not a disc, and Rockstar says a PlayStation code must match the region of the PlayStation account that redeems it.

Check the edition, console family and account region before paying. The preorder guide covers those buying checks; this page owns only device compatibility.

Prepare your console without guessing

Update system software, confirm your store account region, secure the account, and check free storage. Do not delete large games based on a rumoured GTA VI file size; wait for the official store to show the download requirement. If you preorder digitally, preload begins November 12; Rockstar has not stated one universal start hour.
